COVID-19 shut down in-person visit’s to the client’s manufacturing facility, a key step in the sales funnel of multimillion-dollar purchase orders.

A difficult problem presented itself: how to preserve the intangible benefits of in-person meetings and product demonstrations at an exclusive real-world site, when pandemic restrictions made them impossible? With difficult-to-grasp KPIs, as the benefits of the lost experience were largely social, this project was a unique challenge.

The client came with an unusual problem, and had a conventional solution in mind. Nick devised and led a comprehensive, multi-session participatory Design Thinking discovery with client stakeholders, and proposed an innovative but unconventional solution that the client loved.

With a clear experiential outcome in mind, Nick spoke to dozens of members of the client’s sales force and subject matter experts in order to understand the experience at the heart of the client’s pre-pandemic processes.

Using a phased agile approach, Nick provided creative direction and leadership to the design team as they iterated through rough sketches to high-fidelity prototypes of the proposed digital solution.

Through insights gained from conversations with the client’s team, Nick designed and led the development of interactive digital products that simulated the experience of being hands-on.

Nick wrote multimedia training and promotional materials to support the product, including a professionally-produced video trailer.

The product has been deployed as an internal tool for intimate online connections with VIPs, and is receiving ongoing support and updates. Expanded features and content are in development.

A late addition to a viral marketing campaign, the client needed a funny, high-quality AR experience – fast.

With a unchangeable pre-set date for a new product reveal, the client needed an Instagram filter to launch alongside it and drive engagement. With nothing but a verbal description, Nick’s team designed the visual components and launched on Instagram’s distribution platform in time for a successful launch.

Based on the client’s desire to drive engagement with a sharable conversation piece, Nick conducted a scan of the available technology and sharing platforms.

With the understanding that product had a specific voice and feel, Nick and the team iterated and designed an AR filter that achieved a high fidelity while keeping within the constraints of the technology.

The filter was a success, with over 70,000 impressions, 12,000 opens, and 3,000 captures.

A project was in crisis. Tempers were short. Teammates were stressed. Clients were unhappy. What were the issues?

Communication issues between departments and teammates had slowed the project and brought it to a crisis point. Nick was brought in to diagnose the issues, take an empathetic lens to the needs of the individuals involved, and restructure the team for the best outcome possible.

It was immediately clear that the management styles being implemented did not align with the needs of every teammate. Nick restructured a portion of the team as a sub-team and became an advocate and translator, taking the needs of the account team and packaging them in a way the development team could understand and vice-versa.

With a lack of expertise in the needs of the tech stack, the expectations of the account team did not align with the actualities of the developers’ daily capabilities. Nick’s experience in both worlds meant he could correctly assess scope and resourcing needs, and apply them correctly to each teammate.

With the team restructured and working smoothly, the team was able to deliver ahead of schedule. The client, thrilled with the outcome and the trust that had been established, undertook two additional projects with the company.
